Lesson 2: Psalm 119

If you are like me, writing all my reflections on this might wind up to be more than we bargained for. Instead, share with us highlights of your gleanings here.

I found so much here! God's Law is a wellspring for our wellfare in almost, if not every area of life. Our way is kept pure. We have an answer when we need one. It revives us (which goes along with our goal of the renewal of our minds). It counsels me and helps me walk in liberty. It is my preservation. I will learn discernment and knowledge. It will give me understanding. God will be my teacher...

A few weeks ago some well-meaning people sat me down and told me I must allow for "wiggle-room" in the Bible; that I cannot take it all so literally. And just like verse 136 says, "Rivers of waters run down mine eyes, because they kept not thy law." I cried my own rivers of tears because they doubted the veracity of God's complete Word. We must come to the conclusion that God said what He meant and meant what He said. And that He is sovereign over any circumstance or power or principality that would defile or discredit His Holy Word via a "mistake or misprint."

It took me days to read this Psalm because I had to chew very, very slowly. There is nothing this Psalm doesn't cover as it "pertains to life and godliness." It is only through God's Word that I know His attributes, thoughts, plans and love. I know His will for my life, my value and my purpose. I learn to love and trust God becuase His word is true and He never fails me, nor lies. All I need to know for life is in God's word, and it is more precious than all the riches of Egypt. (Hebrews 11:25)

We were studying this Psalm this past spring after our house burned down and we lost everything. Everything BUT the Word of God, which was written upon our hearts. This Psalm daily fed us and encouraged us and reminded us of what was really important in life. Heaven and earth will pass away, but God's word will never pass away. Sometimes we may lose all our possessions due to circumstances, but the Word of God remaineth! It is imperitive we teach our children the foundation of all learning; the Word of God. Whatever happens in any of our futures, if we have done this one thing, we will have done the Will of God.
